Team Success: People Move a Business Forward

“Great things are never done by one person but by a team of people.”

On 17 November 2018, The A.T.A team celebrated the 10thyear-end function. It is incredible to see the progress made over the past 10 years, the success of the business has been due to the team of people who have made this happen and who invested their life and valuable time to make the vision a reality, on a daily basis. People, are the reason the business has achieved the growth in profitability.

Every leader in business, requires productivity and performance from the people in the business to enable growth. However, to achieve the required result, there has to be a focus on the growth of people over profit.

“You don’t build a business; you invest in people and the people build the business.”

The following human needs should be met to create a more people-centric organization and value the employees who invest in the growth of the business:

  1. Communication

People need ongoing communication of the business vision:”Where are we going and how your contribution makes a difference.” Consistent feedback communication with regards to productivity, as well as clarity of goals for performance.

  1. Trust

People need to have trustworthy managers and leaders. Trust is doing what you say you will do. Building trust should be an ongoing goal in the business and measuring the levels is just as important.  A helpful online post to read is the  Ways to measure trust.

  1. Reward

Celebrate everyone’s effort in your business. “What you celebrate expands”, make sure that people are recognized and incentivized for their contribution and the behaviours that enhance the culture of the business and make it the best company to work for.

  1. Respect

Every person has a different emotional intelligence quotient and has different backgrounds before entering the workplace. Make sure that everyone understands that respect is a requirement for co-working and what respect in your business looks like. Lead by example and have standards that people can be accountable for. The use of language should also be communicated. How you talk to each other can make a daily difference.

  1. Freedom

The entrepreneurial nature of a start-up or SME, is reliant on the term “responsible freedom”. The more freedom employees are given; the more responsibility is required. Teams can thrive and enhance the creativity and innovation in a business when given freedom.
